Carter paced back and forth in the room. The phone number weighed heavily in his pocket. Should he call, or should he hold off? He wanted to help Avery, but he couldn't shake the fear that getting involved would put him in danger. The decision weighed heavily on him, as if it had consequences he couldn't fully grasp. His mind raced with a multitude of problematic outcomes, endless "what ifs," but no matter how he thought about it, none of them seemed to end well.

Carter sat down, his mind full of thoughts of Avery. He thought back to their brief meeting, remembering how calm and confident she was, so different from the woman he'd just seen on the breaking news. How could her two faces coexist? The more she thought about it, the more confused the situation became. It was like a puzzle with pieces that didn't quite fit together, and Carter was trapped in the middle, unable to find the right piece or figure out what to do next.

Carter briefly considered asking a friend for advice, someone to talk to that might clear up his confusion, but then he wondered: would anyone really understand?Who could help me navigate this complicated situation without judgment? The idea of involving someone was inherently risky, adding weight to an already difficult decision. Still, the desire for someone to listen, someone I could share my thoughts with, became irresistible.

Carter couldn't get Avery's face out of his head, his expression calm and collected, so different from the urgent news anchor pleading for help. How could she be so calm and collected in his truck when the news said she was in danger? The discrepancy between the two images threw Carter into a state of confusion. The stark contrast between the Avery he met and the Avery he saw on screen made his heart race and gave him a knotty feeling of unease.
